Dreambert and Bedsmith, two Pi’illo creatures, wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they got there. They find themselves in a strange house in a strange town, feeling lost and confused. Just as the panic begins, a strange man named Wonky appears, claiming to be their father. He suggests that they must have passed out the night before while watching television, but before he can explain any further, the situation gets even stranger. A creature named Starlow, a Star Sprite, appears and claims to be their friend. He says that they had plans to meet, but Dreambert and Bedsmith do not remember him or any other such plans. They reluctantly follow Starlow out, unsure of their surroundings. They wander around town, appearing as if they do not recognize their surroundings or Starlow. Despite their confusion, Starlow continues to interact with them as if they were longtime friends. As he shows them around the house, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and names, trying to calm them down. However, Dreambert and Bedsmith are still confused and unable to understand their past or their connection to Starlow. As the day progresses, Starlow becomes increasingly concerned and at first thinks they are just pretending to forget. But as their strange behavior continues, he begins to worry that there is something seriously wrong with their memories. By the end of the day, Starlow’s uncertainty deepens and he wonders if there is more to their forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith are sent back to the house where they woke up, and Wonky – who still claims to be their father – offers them a bed that seems unfamiliar to them. Too tired and confused to protest, they go to bed. As they fall asleep, their minds are filled with questions about their identities, their pasts, and the reason for their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories remains unanswered as they fall asleep in a bad dream, uncertain about the future.
